Sustainable Business in the South Downs

March 26, 2025 | Posted by Amy

On the 19th March, sustainable business leaders from across the South Downs gathered at Tottington Manor for the Our South Downs Business Community Event—a fantastic day of collaboration, sustainability, and forward-thinking discussions about the future of the South Downs National Park.

A Platform for Sustainable Business

The event was hosted by Our South Downs, a business network dedicated to supporting enterprises across the South Downs National Park that are committed to sustainability, conservation, and community impact. Through events, networking opportunities, and business resources, Our South Downs helps local organisations align with the National Park’s sustainability goals—from reducing environmental impact to enhancing biodiversity and promoting responsible tourism.

Set in the stunning landscape near Edburton, this event provided a unique opportunity for businesses to engage with the Park Authority’s long-term priorities, exchange ideas, and explore practical ways to operate more responsibly. It was a true celebration of what a sustainable business approach can look like in action.

Red-Inc at the Forefront of Sustainable Innovation

We were especially proud to see Adam Huttly, Founder of Red-Inc, take the stage as a Green Business Champion, sharing how our small business has disrupted the stationery sector by putting sustainability at its core. His talk highlighted both the challenges and successes of transforming an industry that has historically lagged in environmental responsibility.

While Adam spoke about Red-Inc’s journey in being an environmentally responsible business, he also shared insights into his personal passion for conservation, which extends far beyond the company. A lifelong nature enthusiast, Adam dedicates much of his time outside of Red-Inc to hands-on biodiversity efforts—something that naturally aligns with his professional sustainability values.

During his talk, Adam highlighted his involvement in several wildlife conservation projects, reflecting his deep commitment to protecting the environment plus his love for being in nature and the work he does around bird monitoring across the South Downs.

Although these projects are separate from Red-Inc’s business activities, Adam’s involvement paints a broader picture of his personal commitment to conservation. His talk reinforced that sustainability isn’t just a business strategy—it’s a deeply held personal value.

Key Takeaways from the Event

  • Shaping the Future – Businesses contributed valuable input on sustainability priorities for the South Downs National Park, helping to ensure conservation remains central to regional development.

  • Networking & Collaboration – Attendees connected over lunch, forming new partnerships with like-minded organisations.

  • Exploring the Landscape – Many joined an informal post-event walk to Tottington Woods, continuing meaningful conversations in the beautiful surroundings.

Looking Ahead

As a company committed to environmental responsibility, Red-Inc is excited to build on the connections and ideas sparked at the event. The appetite for sustainable business in the South Downs community is clear, and we look forward to playing our part in driving positive change.

A huge thank you to Our South Downs for hosting such a meaningful event and to everyone who attended—your passion and commitment to a greener future made this gathering truly special.

Until next time, let’s keep pushing for a more responsible future for our businesses, our communities, and our planet.
