Eden Reforestation Projects

Project type: Planting

Partner: Eden Reforestation Projects

Location: Madagascar

Background

Madagascar is one of the world’s top biodiversity conservation priorities because of its endemic species and severe habitat loss rates.

In response to the large-scale destruction of Madagascar’s forests and natural habitats, Eden established the Madagascar Reforestation Project in 2007.

Eden work with local communities to restore forests on a massive scale, creating jobs, protecting ecosystems and helping mitigate climate change. It’s not simply about paying someone to plant trees, it’s about growing the right trees and guarding them as well; it’s about launching and supporting community-based projects that adhere to the highest reforestation standards and include local people at every level.

Lots of people are planting trees all over the world, which is great, but we believe Eden are one of the best, that’s why we work with them.

Social impact: Eden helps to alleviate poverty and create consistent income for local communities by planting a percentage of agroforestry species for sustainable community use. Preventing a community from going into newly restored forests and provides greater community benefits and involvement in the project.

Economic impact: Increases the employment rate of the local population creating a positive impact on the economy
